Recent Awesome Music Updates

Release dates were announced for what will be two of the coolest music releases this year.

It was announced last week that Animal Collective’s Oddsac will be released on dvd, on June 29th. That’s kind of a ways away. I’m still hoping it will come to a theater nearby so I can see it.

Also, news broke recently that Sleigh Bells is set to release their debut album called “Treats” on MIA’s NEET label. The release date is May 11th.

Mark your calendars guys and gals.

On A Different Note-7

David by Yawn

If you think Yawn sound like Animal Collective, I agree. If you think that means Yawn is unoriginal and therefore is not worth listening to, I understand, but, I kind of have a weakness for anything that sounds enough like Animal Collective to be compared to them and I like “David” and “Kind of Guy” from Yawn’s new EP. You can download the EP here for the low, low price of free. I think it’s worth the low, low price of free.

Vanity by Celestial Bodies

This music video involves people’s skin being peeled away from their face, but it’s not as gory as it sounds.

Excuses by The Morning Benders

This song is about love making.

Bright Orange Air by Inlets

This song sounds like a Grizzly Bear song. It sounds like the old Yellow House Grizzly Bear.

Lady Linda by Mux Mool

The above picture is the artwork for Mux Mool’s upcoming album, Mux Mool sounds like an 8-bit version of Nosaj Thing with rappers and pirates. To hype the release of his upcoming album, Mux Mool is giving away his Viking Funeral EP for the low, low price of free (Lookey there I gave you two new EP’s in this post, aren’t I nice.).

Animal Collective is awesome and this is a trailer for their upcoming experimental Sundance film that they have made with Danny Perez. It’s called ODDSAC. Awesome name.

It looks pretty trippy. I’m not sure how much of this movie I would be able to handle, but as soon as I can see it, I will, because Animal Collective is awesome!

You can go here to see where ODDSAC will be screening, I can;t go to any of those, but hopefully ODDSAC can come to me somehow.

On A Different Note-2

Space Odyssey-MIA

MIA recently released this song on her twitter. Judging by this song, MIA’s next album should by quite different then Arular and Kala. It does sound a lot more Animal Collective, but I like that.

Tunnels by FUR

This song is like a psychedelic hip hop party jam. This song is from FUR’s album, Witches, which is being released February 23rd of this year.

Chase the Tear by Portishead

This is a song the Portishead released for the charity group Amnesty. I really like their album, Third and it looks like they might have a new album coming this year.

Vulture by Micachu via

This week, I found this band called Micachu. They have unique vocals and a unique use of electronic, percussion, and stringed instruments.

White Sky by Vampire Weekend via Poptartssucktoasted

Vampire Weekend released their sophmore album last week, and this is probably my favorite song off of it.

New Animal Collective Video

Animal Collective has released a new video for their song Brothersport. Be forewarned this music video is trippy:

Animal Collective is awesome!

Its Beginning to Sound a Lot Like Christmas: Xmas miX

Stores have had Christmas decorations out and radio stations have been playing Christmas music since before Halloween. I follow a strict after Thanksgiving rule because I find myself a little tired of listening to the same songs for a whole month. This year I decided I would find some songs about Christmas and winter that I had not heard before and I thought I would share some with y’all.

Animal Collective- Winter Wonder Land
Arcade Fire- Jingle Bell Rock
Bob Dylan-Must Be Santa
Low-Just Like Christmas
Oh No Ono-Icicles
Queen-Thank God It’s Christmas
Radiohead-Winter Wonderland
Shonen Knife- Space Christmas
Sufjan Stevens-Hey Guys! It’s Christmastime!
The Flaming Lips-Christmas at the Zoo
The Knife-Christmas Reindeer
The White Stripes- Candy Cane Children
Yeah Yeah Yeahs-All I Want For Christmas

Animal Collective: Fall Be Kind

I am a big Animal Collective fan. Every one of their songs are so different from one another and from anything I have ever heard. For the past nine years they have come out with a new album almost every year and they have all been pretty much amazing. Their new EP, released today is no exception. The songs on this EP seem to have a bit of a darker feel and the vocals seem to be more clear as well.
The first song is called “Graze”. It begins as what sounds to be a slow, psychedelic chant and slowly morphs into a jumpy pan-flute jam. Line that got stuck in my head: “Why do you have to go, why do you have to go?”
The second song is “What Would I Want? Sky” Which is the first song to have a licenced Grateful Dead sample which runs through out the whole song. Line that got stuck in my head: “What would I want? Sky”
If I had to pick my least favorite song on this EP it would be really hard, but I think I would say it was “Bleeding”. The first couple seconds begin with a deep mechanical sounding voice and then the rest of the song is like a slow-placed poem reading. That makes it sound lame, but its not. Lines that got stuck in my head: “I’ve feel, shameful, that I must bleed”
“Bleeding” is followed by “On a Highway” The way the lyrics of this song are constructed makes me think of when I had to write Haiku’s in middle school. Line that got stuck in my head: “I can’t wait to find home”
The final song may be my favorite of the EP. Its called “I Think I Can”. It begins with a dark and extra-terrestrial feel. It sounds like some kind of spaceship is taking off. Then a bounce beat that sounds like someone beating plastic tubing comes in and changes the mood up. I just love all of the different rhythmic patterns of the vocals in this song. Line that got stuck in my head: “I think I can, I think I can, I think I-“
I know I will be listening over and over for at least the next week. I hope that Animal Collective keeps churning out awesome new songs. Hopefully they will have a new album early next year.
